Back up cable
1/4″ Synthetic “Dyneema” like line
Because you just never know, I carry a 50 foot section of ¼” synthetic line as a spare on my boat. It can be used for a variety of things. The reason I have it is to replace a broken shroud or a broken steering cable. It’s that strong! This ¼” cable can carry about the same load as ¼” stainless twisted wire. It is rated for 5000 -7000 lbs. depending on the brand and manufacturer. You can buy this for as little as $25 on Amazon or Ebay.
The trick to finding these is to search for a “winch cable” replacement. These are being used to replace the steel winch cable on the front of off-road vehicles. These come with an eye and thimble spliced in one end too. They don’t use the brand name Dyneema so perhaps this is a Chinese imitation.
It’s strong and easy to store. Who knows what it might come in handy for someday?
